How do I update my SUI rate?

Once or twice a year, your State Department of Labor/Employment will assess your State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Tax Rate and provide you with a notice of your rate. If this rate is different from the one we currently have on file for you, please update the rate directly in your payroll account, or send us a copy of the new SUI Rate so we can update your account for you. If you’re not sure if the rate is different, you can view your current rate in your payroll account by clicking on Company and Taxes.

The following states can have their SUI rate updated online: AK, AR, AZ, CA, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, LA, MD, MI, MO, NC, ND, NE, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV.

You can update your SUI rate by following these steps:

  1. Go to Company then select Taxes.
  2. Locate the state  SUI tax you would like to edit, click on the menu icon under “Status”, then select Update.
  3. You will then enter the rate in a percentage format and select a future effective date. Each state’s notice looks a little different, find more information about how to read State Unemployment Tax rate notices to find the SUI rate for your state.
  4. Click Save when you have entered all valuable information.
  5. View the information for accuracy as no email confirmation will be sent to you.

If you need to update the SUI rate for a state not in the list above, please submit the state notice through “Contact Us” in your payroll account by following these steps.

  1. Go to Help, under Contact Us click on "Message Us".  If the rate is not different than what’s currently on file, no action is needed.
  2. Enter the Subject of SUI Rate Change for <enter state name>, Information, and Upload the document.
  3. Click on Send.

Once we receive the notice, we will update your SUI Rate. The payroll approver will receive an email notification once the SUI rate update is complete.
