Washington L&I

For Standard Payroll and Premium Payroll plans only.

In Washington, workers’ compensation is administered by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (WA L&I).

Employers must file WA L&I unless all employees meet the requirements to be excluded from coverage.

For all employees (hourly and salary), reporting and filing WA L&I should be based only on hours worked, and should not include vacation, sick, and/or holiday (even if paid leave).

It is important that when you are setting up employee pay rates that will be used for WA L&I that you use the Time Off policies available for vacation, sick, and/or holiday and not create ‘other rates’ for the individual employee.”

Note: If you set up custom other rates for vacation, sick, and/or holiday, these hours will be used to calculate WA L&I and the amount reported and filed will be inaccurate.

For the purposes of WA L&I, salaried employee hours should be calculated at 160 hours per month, or 480 hours per quarter, using the ‘hours worked’ field on the employee pay rates screen.

For hourly employees who receive other compensation, such as commission, the system will only report and calculate WA L&I based on regular earnings.
